Three Programs are Implemented to Improve Reading Interest in Thousand Islands

Thousand Islands Regency's Library and Archive (Perpusip) Technical Work Unit I implemented three special programs to improve people's reading interest during the pandemic.

Thousand Islands Regency's Library and Archive Technical Work Unit I Section Head, Cecep Suryadi mentioned, those three special programs are APKA (Anda Pesan Kami Antar), IKRA (Inisiasi Keluarga Ringkas Aksara), and Special Handling of Books.

"By implementing those three programs, we hope it can improve people's interest in reading and people's literacy, including students, in this pandemic," he added, Tuesday (2/9).

South Jakarta Pusip Distributes 200 Books for IKRA Program

Through APKA program, people can borrow books by informing personnel in each urban village via WhatsApp. After that, book will be delivered directly to the borrower.

For IKRA, library will lend reading books to residents, then after a certain time books will be taken. Residents who read the book will be asked to provide summary of books they read.

"Five residents who give the best summary will get certificates," he conveyed.

During the pandemic, there was also a program to handle books in a proper way to avoid COVID-19 transmission. This way, people can feel more secure and comfortable to borrow books.

"We apply health protocols such as in handing over the books in plastic bags, the books received will be quarantined for five days before being arranged on the library bookshelves," he explained.
